New School Graphics, Old School Sensibilities

Around a year ago Capcom cancelled Mega Man Universe, a new Little Big Planet-esque online Mega Man game. Then a month ago, Capcom cancelled Mega Man Legends 3 for the 3DS.

Clearly, Capcom hates Mega Man.

What has Mega Man been doing the past 5 years, besides showing up on those crap Battle Network games and Mega Man 9-10 which were great but more of the same?

It’s time to reboot the Blue Bomber on PS4 and XBOX 420.

Imagine: Beautiful and dark yet rich, colorful graphics from a third-person camera perspective and precise controls allowing for intricate platforming. Think of Mega Man as a young and realistic looking 12-year-old boy, who looks human other than his arm cannon and robot-like body movements.

Imagine a new age Cut Man throwing a huge pair of sharp scissors from his head at you. Imagine Fire Man’s stage. And lets not forget to include those ridiculously difficult appearing/disappearing platforms in Ice Man/Heat Man/etc.’s stages.

But there is one thing that is missing: The music.

Mega Man games, especially the first 4, have some of the most memorable video game music of all time. In New Mega Man, take the elements that made the original NES music so good, and update it for a new audience. I know its one game too soon, but I WANT A NEW BUBBLEMAN REMIX.

This is an overhead map of the world, but with not enough blue. Also, replace Dr. Wily's spot with a town hub.

Have an open world similar to Zelda: Ocarina of Time, with a town hub. The map and boss locations reflect the classic Mega Man Boss Select Screen, so Mega Man has to run across a dark, rainy, industrial setting battling enemies on his way to get to a boss’s stage, each of which are spread across the edges of the map.

Insert a money system and some semi-deep RPG elements, and you have yourself a chance to have the next Game of the Year.

Hopefully, Capcom cancelled those other Mega Man games because they are wanting to focus on a more serious Mega Man effort. But, since this era of video games has let me down more times than not (Final Fantasy X, XII, XIII at the top of the list), I’m sure my Mega Man idea is wishful thinking.

Take my idea Capcom. I don’t want anything for it. Just make the game so I can play it.
